It has been a week since the beloved ABC program ‘Hungry Beast‘ shut up shop. This is bad for productivity in the Rocketman office, as now far too much of the day is spent watching old clips. During one of the Hungry Beast video harvests I came across a clip that instantly made me feel guilty for watching it. As this blog aims to bring you some of the most progressive approaches to online video content, it seems fitting that we should include this video as well….
Spoken by Dan illic, the clip discusses the very real environmental impact made by the internet and our thirst for content. It claims that Facebook and Apple are the dirtiest polluters on the internet with the power that cools their servers largely coming from coal energy. However the most disturbing statistic was that each video watched on Youtube responsible for .2gms of Co2. A large amount when you consider 2 billion videos are watched every day (!!!).
I went back through my Youtube History and it consisted of:
Old Spice guy responds to a Demi Moore Tweet
A quote from Peep Show’s SuperHans
How the Texas Chainsaw Massacre should have ended
I am responsible for the destruction of a forest! No more cat dancing is costume videos! For today at least…..
